Job Post: Production Manager

Zululand Anthracite Colliery would like to recruit a Production Manager to be based at the mine’s production section.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Required to be appointed:

  • Diploma or Degree in Mining Engineering

  • Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency (Coal)

  • At least 5-10 years mining experience in management position with exposure to stonework, dykes, faults, low seam, conventional drill and blast, development and stooping, continuous miner development and stooping and managing people at this level effectively.

  • Proven good safety and production records through all levels of mining positions.

Advantageous:

  • Management programme qualification will be advantageous

  • Anthracite mining experience advantageous

  • Affiliated to South African Colliery of Mine Manager’s (SACMA) and Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) advantageous

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the overall management of mining both underground and the opencast.

  • Assists in staffing, outlining mining plans, setting mining goals/deadlines, and evaluating performance.

  • Ensure the safety and health of mine workers.

  • Prepare and manage the departmental budget.

  • Manage, implement and develop required training interventions

  • Recommend corrective action when problems are detected.

  • Be familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.

  • Rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

  • Review, develop and maintain the required policies and procedures.

  • Perform a variety of tasks.

  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

  • Lead and direct the work of others.

  • Ensure legal requirements, procedures and standards are complied with.

  • Effectively manage safety management systems to achieve zero harm

  • Ensuring Production optimization and meeting targets

  • Ensuring Stone work developments optimization and meeting targets

  • Planning of short-, medium- and long-term mining activities.

  • Management of Operational mining activities and technical services that supplement it

  • Lamp room management

  • Effective equipment management and optimization

  • Budget and cost control management.

  • Effective people management

  • Manage training and development within department

  • Making good decisions in the interest of the company

  • Project Management

  • Process tax invoices SAGE

  • Reconciliation on each supplier/account (Excel)

  • Perform Month End for creditors on SAGE

  • File remittances

  • Process journal entries for month-end processing

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Sound knowledge Microsoft programmes and computer skills

  • Sound knowledge in safety management systems

  • Sound Knowledge in Mine Planning and Technical services

  • Knowledge in cost control and budgeting

  • Good communication and decision-making skills

  • Capable to work under pressure

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Ability to obtain certificate of fitness
