Community
Caring Colliery
ZAC has developed a partnership with local communities to bring about long-term social, environmental, and economic benefits for community members. We strive to create meaningful societal value in the communities, in which we operate, through the positive social and economic benefits generated by our operations.
We seek meaningful long-term relationships that respect local cultures and communities’ way of life in a sustainable manner. We give priority to employing local people and purchasing local goods and services by integrating them into our supply chains, wherever possible. We support broader regional and national economies by paying taxes and royalties to the government.
We endeavour to support the development of local economies, make impactful improvements to communities that continue beyond the life of our mines, while always ensuring that these are done sustainably.
Over the decades, ZAC has been involved in many community and social projects, with the primary focus on local economic development, education, enterprise development and corporate social investment initiatives for the four nearby local communities of Mandlakazi, Matheni, Mlaba and Zungu.
