Job Post: Environmentalist

Zululand Anthracite Colliery would like to recruit an Environmentalist to be based at the mine’s environmental department.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Required to be appointed:

  • Degree in Environmental Management or an equivalent qualification.

  • 2 years’ environmental management experience.

  • Driver’s License.

  • Previous experience in Mining Rights, Water use License and Nema applications and Permit Management.

Advantageous:

  • SACNASP Registration

  • BSc Honours in Environmental Management or related

  • Knowledge of GIS and Remote Sensing

  • Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, SAGE and PowerPoint

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operational monitoring – Rehabilitation, waste control, water sampling, contractors, dust.

  • Compliance – Statutory reports and monitoring as per the NEMA, NWA, MPRDA conditions.

  • To ensure adherence to all legislations to ensure that Zululand Anthracite Colliery stays in good stead with maintaining its mining license.

  • Reviewing, updating and compiling internal environmental reports such as WUL audit, EMPR audit, annual water quality monitoring reports etc.

  • Conduct robust planning with all site departments to ensure integration of Environmental obligations, closure planning and

  • Associated closure cost estimates into LOM and budget cycles.

  • Implement and develop the environmental function and accompanying long-term environmental plans for the mine.

  • Develop, promote, adapt, expand and update the Environmental Management System to mitigate and fully address the environmental responsibility through to mine closure.

  • Provide environmental expertise to management and enhance environmental awareness.

  • Ensure that environmental permitting at the mine is maintained.

  • Assists in ensuring environmental targets are achieved.

  • Proactive approach to all environmental related issues.

  • Conducting Bi-weekly Environmental inspections on Shafts, Processing plants and Railway Siding in accordance with Environmental legislations.

  • Implementation of Environmental Awareness Campaigns with ZAC staff and surrounding communities.

  • Stakeholder engagements through attending meetings.

  • Administrative duties.

  • Data collection, capturing and analysis (water monitoring and compliance monitoring)

  • Waste management by organising for the separation, collection, transportation and disposal of different kinds of waste.

  • Taking any other duties as instructed by the environmental superintendent.
