Job Post: Underground Safety Officer
GRADE: C - UPPER
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- Relevant Safety Diploma (Adv.) 
- Blasting Ticket (Adv.) 
- Comsoc 1 & Comsoc 2 
- 2 to 3 years experience in a coal mining 
- Good Safety Record 
- Valid Driver’s License 
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To promote health and safety among the workforce and to control direct and advise the efforts of the Risk / Safety dept to reduce accidents and incidents and to achieve compliance philosophy of zero harm. 
- To ensure that all employees adhere to health and safety procedures and policy through training, coaching, inspecting and advising. 
- To facilitate a two - way communication between management and employees on health and safety issues in order to ensure that employees (including contractors) work safely. 
- To participate in investigations of accidents, incidents and occupational disease in order to contribute in finding solutions that will prevent re-occurrence. 
- To assist the Management in the identification of hazards and to assist in the elimination or minimization of these hazards. 
- To contribute to the reduction of accidents and incidents by follow up on identified health and safety concerns. 
- Willing to work extra hours if needed. 
KNOWLEDGE:
- Relevant legislation / Minerals Act / Mine Health & Safety Act/ Relevant SPIs and COPs 
- Good grasp of the Mine processes ( Mining , Engineering , etc) 
- Knowledge of DMR requirements.
