Job Post: Engineering Manager (D-Level)
GRADE: D - UPPER LEVEL
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- Bsc or National Higher Diploma in engineering whilst an MBA or related Business Management qualification will serve as an advantage. 
- A Valid, unendorsed Government Certificate of Competency as an Engineer (Mines and Works). 
- Minimum of 5 years experience as a Senior Engineer with a legal appointment on a Coal Mine. 
- Understanding and knowledge of the mining environment and related legislative requirements. 
- Experience in provision of strategic direction. 
- Experience in managing and developing large groups of employees. 
- In-depth understanding of mining engineering and planned maintenance. 
- Experience in customer relationship management. 
- Experience in continuous improvement processes 
- ECSA as well as SACEA Membership Advantageous. 
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review of safety, production and maintenance activities. 
- Effective management of the Engineering function. 
- Fulfilment of the requirements of the Mine Health and Safety Act – the engineer appointed to this role needs to uphold regulation 2.13.1 of the act. 
- Ensuring the co-ordination of short-term objectives. 
- Strategic medium-term planning and co-ordination of department. 
- Establishing benchmark practices and ensuring participation in and contribution to industry and corporate working groups where applicable. 
- Ensuring visible leadership and commitment to safety. 
KNOWLEDGE:
- Applicable legislation – Mine Health and Safety Act (29 of 1996). 
- Maintenance strategies and best practise. 
- Sound knowledge of mining equipment and machines (Both Conventional as well as Continuous Miner Sections). 
- Contract management. 
- Change management.
