Masokaneni Block Making Project

Overcoming obstacles and set-backs and having the determination not to give up normally results in achievement of an objective. This has certainly been the case for the 12-member Masokaneni Block Making Co-operative in the Mandlakazi Traditional Authority Area.

The Masokaneni Block Making Co-operative started out as a community project of  ZAC and has grown enough that the cooperative members are now earning monthly salaries from the project.

The project currently has a weekly production target of 5 000 blocks. Contractors for the Department of Human Settlement’s low-cost housing project in the nearby neighbouring Masokaneni area are among the of the co-operatives customers. Other customers have included Qedusizi Construction, the main contractor on the construction of the Falethu Skills Centre in the neighbouring Zungu Traditional Authority.

ZAC continues to assist the project with the second phase of the project being planned to include slab expansion and a delivery vehicle.
